There are three basic types of WordPress permalinks:

default (example: http://www.e2soft.com/?p=1)
mod_rewrite (example: http://www.e2soft.com/year/post-name/)
pathinfo (example: http://www.e2soft.com/index.php/year/post-name/)

If you want change your URL structure, you have to go to Settings -> Permalinks and edit the settings.

Other great type of permalinks: /%category%/%postname%/

%postname%              version of the title of the post
%category%               version of the category name
%year%                      year of the post
%monthnum%            month of the year
%day%                       day of the month
%hour%                      hour of the day
%minute%                  minute of the hour
%second%                  second of the minute
%tag%                        version of the tag name
%author%                   version of the author name

2. Optimize Post Titles, Description and Keywords

Title tags are probably the most important SEO tags and shall not be ignored at all. Therefore, the Search Engine Friendly title gets higher SE rankings.

Search Title Format:  %search% | %blog_title%
Description Format:  %description%
404 Title Format: Nothing found for %request_words%
Paged Format:  – Part %page%

You should not use %blog_title% tag in post and page because using long title tags are not optimal.

You can write custom META tags (title, description, keywords) for each article, it will help your improve ranking. You can setting up these whenever you create your post.

3. Optimize Internal and External Links
